Looking for an Oregon bicycling adventure or merely a sightseeing opportunity? The Oregon Coast offers some of the most spectacular views our country has to offer.
Touring the Oregon Coast via Hwy 101 is truly magnificent; however, there are some challenges that you will face...narrow sections of highway and fast vehicles. If you're looking for a safer Oregon bicycling opportunity along the Oregon Coast, check out the Three Capes Scenic Route. Your return section can include a ride along Hwy 101; however, there are some options.
Three Capes Loop: This is a beautiful scenic oceanfront drive out of Tillamook. Take 3rd Street exit off of Hwy 101 towards the west. Follow Netarts Hwy to Bayocean Road to Cape Meares Loop Road. Continue to Netarts Bay Drive and south along Whiskey Creek Road to Cape Lookout Road. Head south on Sand Lake Road to Cape Drive then east to Pacific City and back to Hwy 101.
You have some options: Starting out at Tillamook you can head out towards Cape Meares, circle around and return back to Tillamook via Netarts Hwy.
If you want to add a little more of a challenge with an overnight,, instead of heading back to Tillamook you can head further south to Cape Lookout State Park. This is a great place to spend the night, 800-452-5687. The next morning you can continue your Oregon bicycling adventure and head down to Cape Kiwanda. If you want to hop a bus back to Tillamook, here's your chance. Tillamook County runs buses back to Tillamook on a daily basis. Give them a call for the details, 503-815-8283.
For those adventurous one you can bicycle back to Tillamook via Hwy 101 completing a 80-mile trip.
